You could do that.I would recommend that when your Tegu is not in his hide to every now and than to let the wood air dry for a while because I would be worried that if the wood stays wet inside all the time that the wood would get moldy inside

Another thing is instead of turning the plastic container over, cut an opening in it a little way up. This way you can fill it with substrate and with keeping the lid on, and only the opening, it is easy to keep the humidity up. I had to stack rocks/bricks for mine as stairs but then they can also lay on top of the plastic container.
