From my understanding, tegus are diurnal. However, for the past week or two Willis has only been waking up around 4 or 5pm, staying up till 9-10, then going back to bed. I want to return him to a normal cycle, but what if this is normal for him? Does anyone have any ideas? The schedule doesn't effect me, but the sudden switch bothers me. Thanks for any help.

If the external environment simulates daytime, that is you have him in a room where you keep the lights on, and the temp in the cage is similar to daytime temp, that is not ups and downs, then the Tegu may thing it's morning and come out and play.

hi willis, tegus are most active during the day. (suppose to be)
I had this happen to me. my two args would wake up at the break of dawn and start to settle in about 5 pm. my col. was not waking up until 7-8 pm and staying awake just roaming around to all kinds of hours.
I had to reset all of their clocks. I consistantly put all of everybody's lights on and off at the same time every single day (got timers). it took about a week. but I am now happy to say we are all on the same page around here ...LOL. _________________ 0.1.0 B/W Colombian tegu

Angelrose is right. It would help a lot if you get a timer. You can get a cheep one at Walmart.Set the time for it to come on when the sun comes up and than for the time to turn of when the sun goes down.I had that problem before, too, and the timers do helped me a lot.
