well I just recently adopted a full grown Argetine female tegu. When i got her the previous owner informed me she was missing some back toes, had a regrown tail, and only ate dead mice. he also said he fed her in the tank. So, I have tried to mix up her diet and feed her outside of the tank. She eats outside just fine (she wouldn't eat anywhere but her tank for the other guy). However, She only likes mice. Is it ok for her to stay on her diet of a mouse a week or should i still keep trying other stuff with her? Also, she came to me while she was shedding.. and she doesn't seem to be able to get her tail to shed. it's right at the intersection of the regrowth. another question. how often should they poop? She has only done it once and i have had her two weeksish. any general comments?

I would put her in a bathtub every day until she sheds she needs humidity bad! I would try taking some fruit and rubing it on the dead mice so it can taste it an then try puting fruit next to the mice. mango, or grapes seedless.

It seems that the last owner did not care about the way you are supost to take care of it.

Hi jessweet49.Welcome to the Tegu forum family and congrats on your new Tegu.Yes the poop is normal and it is also normal for the shed of the tail to come of a few days later.Alek is right.Just give a bath every day when she is shedding. After that just do it every now and than because if you give her to many baths it will take out the natural oils she has in her skin.I also recommend to keep the entire mulch moist to the touch not wet and stir it up.What I usually do is.One day I mist down the entire mulch and stir it up.Next day I just mist the top.Next day I stir it all up and than the next day start all over again. Here are some infos for you.Hope that helps.I'm happy to hear that she is eating out side of her enclosure.
