I will be getting a baby hopefully early next month. what size tank do I need. I got rid of my red tail boa to make room, and I am sitting on a enclosure close to 6x3x2.5 is that to big for a new tegu?

Hi cpaschal.Welcome to the Tegu forum family and good luck with finding the Tegu you want.If you are getting a hatchling or a very young one I recommend starting of with a 55 gallon. You could go smaller but they grow very fast.

That should be fine for the first year if it hibernates, if it doesn't hibernate it could be 3ft in a year....but to save some cash that'll work for a while then ya look into a nice big custom

what you could do is (if the big cage is already constructed) : seperate de enclosure with something, so the Tegu wont be able to go to the other section instead of buying another cage. icon_wink.gif

lol no problem Sam icon_wink.gif

The only problem with seperating the cage...is to find something strong and that will not fall on the tegu...because they are so persistant. lol icon_lol.gif

how strong would a young tegu be? I don't think it would be hard to section off. by the way-that is a great Idea. whydidn't i think of that.

what you could use is foam...and recover it with a material that is slippy so the tegu wont be able to climb.
