overall temperament I will say is very good. can be moody some times. large, large food response. when he is hungry he will go for anything that moves so I suggest using tongs. extremely powerful !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
when he was a baby he used to try and intimidate me. he would open his mouth and try to bite, whip his tail (that's a hard hit ...ouch !) and then he would make these really loud hollow sounding hisses.
and again I went in and picked him up and then he just stopped soon after I got him and I could hold him and he would lay on the sofa. he only response well to me though. he gets easily stressed if he does not see me (like when I went on vacation for 10 days) he did not eat or anything for the sitter I had for all of them.
now he's older I guess about 3yrs and he has become very independent. he does not like to be held anymore. they really like to hide alot. I guess to sum it up I would say moody and not social.
you know Ben if you can dedicate alot of your time to the savy he will make a good pet. Bear started to change after everybody else was moving in and I did not devote as much time to him.

Ben, You have been in this forum probably longer than I have. If you are really deciding between a sav and a tegu.... I will let you know that savs can reach 6 feet in lenght and are known for turning on there owners just like the Iguanas. there is a reason why they are so cheap to purchase. Here is a good rule of thumb If you have time to tame a sav for two hours a day then you will have a great pet but that is two hours for about a year strait. Now tegus? As muchas I see you in this forum, I think you know which pet would be the best.

lol 6 feet? Never heard of it.
I visit many forum, and I never read comment about Sav turning up against their owner. Just like Tegus, they are suppose to be skittish and jumpy when baby and calmer after a year or when they reach maturity.
As for the time, I have plenty of time to spend which both of them. I only have one herp (a Beardie) and he/she is very sweet, so all my time would be spend with the new one.
However, do you have any experience with Savy monitor?
Also, maybe that I have been on this forum for a long time, but I am still thinking about choosing the best one.

imo, the savy and tegu make good pets. you must give your time with both of them. I have heard of plain old mean tegus and savs as well as good tegus and savs.
the only big difference I see is the tegu is definitely more social. savs like to hide.
I'm going to take a chance here and walk on some egg shells when I say it would appear the tegu is more intelligent.

I have been around herps for 15 yrs trust what I say If you think it can be as nice as that beardie... :lol: If you have a sav it is way more advanced in taming. Tegus in my experience is the easiest to tame in the big lizard category.
