Actually, the basking spot is useful for reptile for these two things:
1- Thermoregulation
2- Digestion
Just make a spot clean everyday and all is going to be alright! It won't smell bad. _________________ Ben3233

It's not that they go in the hot spot, if they are not warm enough, then metabolism is too slow for them to digest and pass fecal matter properly. I made this mistake with my very first herp, a sav that I bought back in '91, when herp info was scarce.
By the way, Melissa Kaplan ROCKS, and her anapsid website is awesome. _________________ Laura R (FL)
