My tegu from Varnyard finally arrived today around noon.
This is her crawling out of the bag she was packaged in.

She is extremely friendly already. I haven't thought of a name yet.
I gave her a few crickets and she kept looking for more.. Wound up eating a dozen (which is all I had).
I thought I would use a cardboard box to feed her in, but the crickets kept crawling out, so I'll pick up a rubbermaid container.

After a 15 minute nap she started crawling around her cage again.

I took her out to play with for the first time.

After crawling around my desk I took her into the living room where my Sister and Mother enjoyed watching her traverse the couch and our laps.

I kept waiting for her to seem overwhelmed and would have brought her back to her cage, but right from the moment she came out of the box she has been sniffing around extremely curiously.
We wondered if she was still hungry so I put a little chunk of ground turkey on the floor and placed her near it. She went right up and chowed down 2 big bites and left a little piece behind, which relieved me because it meant she was full.
You are supposed to offer them as much food as they will eat correct? They will know when they are full?
Anyway, after eating we went back to the couch. She made her way under my shirt and burrowed under my side and slept for another 20 minutes.
When she woke up I took her back to her cage and now shes basking on her rock.

I am extremely happy with her. Best reptile I've ever owned.

I like your videos. for some reason I like to watch them eat crickets. it makes me laugh.

what a delight in reading this. please share more with us as she grows. thank you much for sharing icon_smile.gif .

angel, its a black and white argentine.
Yesterday I didn't get to see her at all icon_sad.gif She wasn't up hen I left for work, and I got home late.
Does anyone know any tricks to waking them up without moving their hide and losing their trust?

sometimes they pop out if you soak their tank.

also the smell of fish has woken my girl before.

if i need to wake her up only safe way is with fish, any other and she gets super butthurt at me.

Hi Shlink, I can suggest getting timers on the lights/heat to help acclimate her to the new environment/schedule.
