Do you mean a regular heatpad used for sore muscles? If so, yes you can use one just make sure to only have it on 1/3 of the tank so that there is still a cool part of the tank and of course don't get it very wet when you are misting the enclosure.

I use a heater pad under the bottom of my 55 gallon tank of course on the warm side under log I have for her. She can not come in contact with it because it is on the underside of the tank on the outside so its nice and toasty on the spot but no worries of wires or electrocution. She enjoys that spot she always burrows around where the pad is set.

We have placed a heatpad in the enclosure of our young B&W and nailed a piece of hardboard over it so he can't get to it. The cables directly go trough the wall of the enclosure to the outside so no tripping or getting cought!
He likes to sleep off fat tummies over there _________________ 1.0.0 T.rufescens

I have a heavy duty reptile heat mat in the cage with my tegu. He can come into contact with it, but the temperature it set very low - its really just to keep his night time temps in the 70s. I have one in my beardie cage for the same reason. It hasnt caused him any trouble. Its literally what looks like a flat piece of very thick plastic. I do keep an eye on it though for any signs of wear, but he doesnt really dig at that side of the cage anyway.

that was the reason I grabbed one. Not many people I new had them but I live in new England so the day might be 70 degrees but night is going to be 32. So at night her enclosure stays comfortable. I don't know were your located but if where you live the temp drops significantly at night you might want to think about it. Or if your like some people that have to sleep with the window open.
