Ok so im down at school and i saved a leo from a girl in the dorms that deperatly needed attention. He has lost all his toes and has discoloration due to lack of nutrition. I am also cleaning his entire cage because of the mounds of crap left in the cage. Do they need uvb or uva like my tegu "Oz"... Also my friend has a tokay that he has raised it for a year or so. He is worried about the sudden loss in muscle mass. He has most things correct that i have found on a care sheet however do they need special lighting as well? Also his father accidentally remover the tail... could that have anything to do with the loss of muscle mass due to the regrowth?

Leos do not need UV because they are nocturnal, but keepers usually supplement with calcium AND D3, as opposed to the current trend to avoid D3 in other reptiles.

The lost tail shouldn't affect overall muscle mass, but poor nutrition would. Tokay's don't need UV either, but supplement with calcium/D3. To increase muscle mass, feed a suitable feed that is high in protein and fat. For instance, tokays are usually fed crickets and superworms, but an occasional pinky (if it's big enough) and waxworms thrown into the mix would add more substance to the diet. Phoenix worms are pretty good, too, and are supposed to be higher in calcium. Feed enough that he's adequately full, every day.

Thank you laruafl, those sheets will help alot. i have convinced my friend to leave his tokay with me for a few weeks while i get it back to health(he is a logger so he isnt home enough). luckly i have plenty of vitamins and supplements that i use with oz my b&w. Unfortunately all the pet stores in this little town went out of business except for the aquarium place. Would lean turkey work for the tokay? Also does anyone has any additional advise on the tokay, i havent kept one in about 5 years and all i remember is they are mean as hell. luckly i kept those welders gloves icon_lol.gif
