How can i raise the humidity in my tank??

Well first off you want to make sure that you have a suitable substrate that can hold in moisture. I personally use cypress mulch and it's worked for me

But you raise humidity you should spray the mulch in the enclosure with a water bottle or a pump sprayer, like this one:

I use something that looks like that and it's pretty awesome.

I cover most of the top screen with aluminum foil and add a layer of black duct tape to make it look more professional. Leave a square open for the basking light and another open square with a removable flap to adjust humidity.

i went to ace hardware and bought an outdoor misting system for 25 bucks, then an adapter to hook it to my shower faucet, so sometimes i lock my tegu in her cage and mist the whole setup down with hot steam, we're talkin 150% humidity, real steam room status. all for less than 30 bucks. She Loves it!

That's pretty cool, Worldeater, I wish I could do that. Can relative humidity go above 100%, or were you exaggerating to make the point that it was really really humid?
Melvin, if you use a screen-top, you could put a wet towel over a portion of it, then adjust the humidity level by adjusting the amount of the screen that is covered. This is what Dave Dragon does, only he uses aluminum foil, but it's the same principle of decreasing the ventilation so air moisture stays in the tank. That combined with daily misting, and you should be able to get the humidity level just where you want it with minimal effort. Remember that the tegu still needs some ventilation, so rely heavier on misting than on decreasing ventilation. Probably don't cover more than half the screen.

i was egsajurating lol, yay for phonetic spelling! (exaggerating) i think the amount of humidity air can hold is relitive to the temp. ie:100 degree air can hold more water than 80 degree air of the same volume. never over 100%

the extra 50% is for all the warm super fine water vapor (steam) thats whirling around in her tank.

she really really likes it. i have to do it to compinsate cause she lives and sleeps in 55% humidity. way too low for her.

I use a spray bottle like this one and it works great.I got it at walmart.Please make sure that you don't just spray the top of the mulch.You would need to stir it all up every other day to make sure that the entire mulch is moist ( not wet to the touch just moist ).

That's a good idea but what are you going to do when it gets cold outside.The water will be to cold for him than.

it would shock the heck out of me if I would get sprayed with cold water like that.I would run

Another option is to use an enclosure that does not have an open top, as heat and humidity rise they escape faster from these type of cages.

My tegu lives outside in very dry San Diego. I soak his enclosure once a week and heep his hide very humid. He looks funny when he come out all covered in moist dirt.
