Quite how I discovered tegus I'm not sure. However I've been utterly fascinated with them ever since! No way I'll be able to get one for quite some time here unfortunately. Presently I live in a pretty compact flat with a no pets policy, and there's no way I could afford either the tegu or the enclosure etc to go with him or her.

They just seem to tick all the boxes...they're just the right size, they're actually curious, and if properly tamed obviously enjoy being around people, rather than just accomodating them as part of their environment.

Not really having spent much time around reptiles other than a friends (very large) iguana when I was quite a lot younger, there are a fair amount of habitual things which are still a bit of a mystery.

The one question which has popped into my head recently was do tegus make noises? Doesn't really have any relevance to anything is just a bit of curioursity. Do they have a vocabulary?

hello Zelandeth, I'm sure we all have our unique ways of how we stumbled upon the tegu. I know I do ...lol. perhaps, a smaller tegu would fit in with you. blue argentines are not that large. they are not vocal at all. the only sound you may hear eventually is a 'huffing' sound which would mean 'leave me alone' or possibly the sound of swooshing tail which means the same. they spend a great deal of time in their hides/burrows and can hibernate 5 to 7 months out of the year.

Hehe, don't temp me! The ability to resist things was never one of my strong points.

I may be moving at some point in the not too distant future, at which point I might be able to re-evaluate my options...as there's a very large part of me telling me that I really, really would love to have a tegu around.

They just seem to be such fascinating and endearing creatures.
