theTegu.com - Tegu information, photo gallery, forums, caresheets, diet & nutritional info, taming tips and more for the argentine black and white tegu, argentine red tegu, blue tegu, colombian black tegu and the colombian gold-phased black tegu. Tupinambis merianea, teguixin & rufescens.
i filled my tegus tank with allmost 80lbs of decomposed granite, it gets real clumpy when wet, a lot like the excavator stuff. my tegu hated it and never even tried digging in it. i took all 80 lbs of it out less than a month later.
go with cypress. tegu's don't seem to make burrows as they do bury themselves at night. _________________ 1.1.0 Arg B/W Tegu Joker n Groxy

yeah, i have a few.
we are getting a screen top (last time we went to the pet store they didn't have any 30 gallon screen aquarium lids).
so this is one of the times i found him when he got out last week.
also, will this (aluminum? screened) cage be okay for when he gets older?

It's time to go fishing. He is a very good looking Tegu.I like the colors on his head allot.Do you have that screen all around the enclosure ? if you do I would be a little worried because it doesn't hold any humidity.

yeah, it's all around screen, but the humidity in the whole room stays from 70-80%.
i'd line the place with plastic (like for chameleon cages) to hold in more humidity if nessecary and to hold in the substrate.
is that humidity ok?
nevermind my other posts on the humidity, i got it all wrong. _________________ --0.1.0 Columbian Tegu--

here they are
i have a real problem now.
a few days ago i saw my tegu's left eye was closed. i thought it was just a bit of dirt that got into his eye so i soaked him in warm water and put him back in his cage.
yesterday night the outside storage room that i keep him in got to 60.9 degrees. i know tegus hibernate at this temperature so i put my tegu in my room in a temporary cage (my room is usually 76 degrees) and would move the larger cage in my room tonight. he was a bit lethargic when i picked him up last night.
the last time he ate was 2 days ago, that i know of.
i came back home today and noticed he was very lethargic and only his left eye was open, and only halfway open and looked a bit sunken back. his snout had a few bubbles on it that got onto the mouth. then i saw him breathing though his mouth. i think he might have RI.
i soaked him in lukewarm water just a few minutes ago to hydrate.
i have no idea what this is and what is causing it so does anyone know what it is? and what do i do about it??
here are some pics of it.
also when i was taking picturesi discovered 2 things- 1. a scratch/scar (i put non painkiller neosporin on it) 2. he pooped out something (last 2 pics).
