Greetings.
Has anyone ever heard of the Chilean Dawrf Tegu, sci. name: Callopistes maculatus? They're interesting looking, and i was wondering if they may be a good addition to my humble family (sadly acknowledges that 'family' is me and my dog). If anyone does know about them...
temperament?... diet?.... are there any breeders known? i've heard that most out there are wild caught and thus flighty.... Any info at all?
Lemme know if you know anything. Would REALLY appreciate it.
Im a bit sceptical about that site...their cage sizes suggested for all species are incredibly small, plus I see a lot in their bearded dragon section that would cause outrage on some of the sites I visit.
Theres a thread about two down on this board about ameivas - the dwarf tegu. Have a look there to see if theres anything useful

Yeah i don't agree with that site. I scrolled down to Blue Tongued skinks and they say you can house 2 or 3 in a 20 gallon tank... I think a 40 to 55 gallon for a single blue tongue is more appropriate

Callopistes Maculatus are supposedly very similar to Ameivas in being very active most of the time as welll as being burrowers, Maculatus is similar in size to green Ameivas attaining 20'' total length and svl's of over 6'', the main difference is habitat as Maculatus comes the hot South American deserts (including the Atacama from what I understand),
