Nail Damage
Damage may be prevented by eliminating materials with small holes (cholla wood, for example) from the lizard's enclosure and by keeping the lizard's nails trimmed or filed.
Physical Symptoms:
Bent, sensitive, or bleeding toes, claws hanging loosely by shreds of skin.
Cause/Transmission:
Nails caught in small holes in climbing materials, wire mesh, cloth, or other items are removed suddenly or forcefully by the lizard.
Treatment:
Bathe the area in a povidone iodine solution. See your veterinarian. Some claws hanging by skin only may need to be removed.
