This is a pic of a male and female, I was in a hurry and decided to feed them in their cage. I put two fuzzys in and one ate his quick, then went for the one the female had. Well it was a food fight. But there was no harm done. This is what not to do, and I will not feed them together again.

This happened to me twice, once i was playing with the mice on my shoulder, waiting for my babys to come out for they meal, i didnt realized that they were already on their basking spot and the mice fall from my shoulder to the water bowel, carnage.

And another time, i was feeding minos and he was so young, i gave him the mice and he ran away with it under the bed, and there was zatara hiding in a cool spot, minos didnt saw zatara but zatara saw the mice and bang!, guts all over the place, i found this little organ and i said "oh man, that mice ripped off something from minos... or something" i examined the thing again, it was the stomach of the mice... how did it got there with just one bite, i dont know, it was perfectly dissected.

If you have more than one, dont feed they with mice at the same time, they tend to fight for them even if they are not that hungry. icon_redface.gif

Now just imagine Tegu A was smelling Mouse 1, Tegu B starts smelling Mouse 1 just as Tegu A bites Mouse 1 and gets Tegu B's tongue. Tegu A, thinking Tegu B is trying to steal the 'food' starts ripping and tugging until Tegu B has a missing tongue.

It happens a lot when tegus are fed together. Sky grabbed Tux's tongue and I had to wrestle the both in my arms to keep any damage from happening. I have seen tegus, like Lucky who is missing a tongue and one of the hatchling I sold (one of two) to a local petstore is now missing the tip of it's tongue.

This is why I feed outside of the enclosure and separately. Beware.

Rick
