Hey guys i have a very urgent question. I work at a petstore and i am in charge of the reptiles there. We got a beardie in a couple days ago and i slowly introduced him to 2 others we origionally had in the store. After 2 days of introducing them to each other and cleaning out the cage and everything i put them all in the same cage. I supervised them for 4 hours
( on and off) and they were doing awesome. the new one was even on the bigger ones back!! it was so cute. But to make a long story short, i went home around 1 pm and the person who came in after me fed the reptiles for me. Well i opened again this morning and it seems that all my little buddies toes on his two back legs are chewed off. Now there were no crickets in the cage because everyone knows i will have a hissy fit if the crickets are left in the cage overnight so i know it had to be another beardie. well anyways i took him home and have him isolated. He seems healthy as can be , besides the obvious, and hes eating lettuce and ate 6 tiny mealworms. He looks like hes gonna loose his two back feet. I have Bactodine which i soaked him in for 10 min. and then a reptile neosporin that my vet gave me for my ball python called bactoderm ( which came in handy for many things!) but i want to know what i should do when he looses his feet! what should i avoid? what will he do without his feet? how should i feed him crickets?!?!?! ahhhh im so confused! sorry this was so long but i had to ask! i will get some pics once i get batteries for my camera thanks in advance for all your help! icon_biggrin.gif

I'd wait for the vet advice.

As far as bactoderm it is probably ok to use since it's basicly an antibiotic creme, but I am pretty sure it was scientifically formulated for dogs. Not sure if they made a version for reptiles or not.

I just use a regular triple antibiotic that does NOT contain a pain relief aids.

A lot of lizards do just fine without toes, or even feet. Their activity may be compromised, such as being unable to climb branches and such, but overall their life won't be that impacted. At the moment I have several tegus that are missing limbs, and even a tortoise born without a foot on one rear limb. It really isn't that bad for them. The one thing that does stand out, though, is unlike mammals, reptiles don't seem to learn that they're missing appendages and will still try to use what's not there years after it has been missing.

Thanks for all your help guys, he just got home from the vet and she told me to keep doing what i was doing and he'll be just fine. there was nothing we could do other than use the antibiothcs to stop an infection. hes gonna loose his back feet but she said he will learn and get use to it. other than that hes perfectly healthy and infection has not set in so hes fine!!! yay!! icon_biggrin.gif and hes a little pig too, he ate 6 mealworms yesterday when i brought him home and a little bowl of lettuce. i handfed him 6 crickets today and hes munching on some applesauce right now! i think im gonna keep this little guy im attached to him already!!
thanks again!

Oh yea and the vet said bactoderm was what she uses on all her reptiles, it works great on reptiles, and she prescribes it to all her patients. so if anyone gets it prescribed for their reptile id keep it around for all future cuts and scrapes!!( for the herps not us!)
