hi, i noticed today that there were small white mites in my cypress much. it was only about a week old and i had seen this before in both of my other rhino iguana tanks. i switched them over to paper towels but i'm afraid if i do that to my red tegu he will have shedding problems. i know it's probably enevidable to avoid them but

has any else had this?
do those mite remover sprays work?

thanks

BTW: right now i changed the substrate to paper towels

i had this problem with cypress i'm not shure about the spray stuff all i did was throw all tyhe current mulch out and wash everythin with a 1:10 ratio of bleach and water seemed to do the trick but a little costly due to bags of cypress here costing 30$ for a not so big bag.

Welcome to The Tegu Community! icon_smile.gif

Everyone,

I have Agway order it for me for about $5 for a large bag. I normally order 10 bags at a time and never had any insect issues at all.

When freezing the mulch to kill mites -
How long do you need to freeze the mulch?
Once frozen and then thawed, how do you store it?

With my snakes I use prevent-o-mite. Can that be used on the cage and supplies inside the enclosure? I know that Tegus are more fragile than boas when it comes to fumes and stuff of that nature.
