I have read several posts and am still unsure. Is it just any mouse? Or is it a particular stage of mouse, like a juvenile? We dont use these terms in ther UK so Im a little confused icon_smile.gif We just have pinkie/fuzzy/small/adult/jumbo(or monster) mice at the stores I visit.

A hopper is when the fuzzy gets more fur and start jumping all around. It's also called 'Flea Stage' by mouse breeders.

1st Stage: Pinkie
2nd Stage: Fuzzy
3rd Stage: Hopper (Flea Stage)
4th Stage: Small
5th Stage: Adult
6th Stage: Jumbo

I don't think I missed any of the stages.. if I did someone will pipe in. icon_smile.gif

Whats X Breeder size? Is it much bigger than a jumbo?

On a side note, I think my tegu will have to move on to some size of rat soon...he just swallows jumbos in one at the moment icon_confused.gif Whats the next size in rodent up from a jumbo mouse? Small/Med rat?

A store near me also sells frozen hamsters and gerbils. Is there any nutritional advantage to these feeders, or are they just for variation? They also have rabbits and guinea pigs. Its like a childs worst nightmare in their freezer icon_smile.gif

I think I may have to resort to "adopting" animals and accidentally feeding them to my tegu...

X breeders are females that are too old to breed and are being replaced so they are sold at jumbo price. Many times they are pregnant and are extra plump. They have a higher fat content and can be used to fatten up animals that dont have a good feeding response.

Dont know about tegus but many snake breeders shy away from hamsters, gerbals... since their snakes will not go back to eating rats afterwards. If your Tegu has a good feeding response I dont see it as a problem.

Wanna have fun? next time you go to the grocery store or the pet store and there is someone giving away FREE kittens, just look at the kitten and say in a sweet voice, "awwwwww he's just the right size to feed to my tegu (or snake)"

Or call your local pet adoption/rescue shelters and ask if they have cats you can adopt. When they say, "yes", ask them, "How much is it per pound? Is it live or frozen/thawed?" icon_smile.gif

I know, I have a very sick sense of humor..
