My female red i got about a month ago is retaining shed...BAD she is very dark so the color change doesnt really show except her belly. i have tried everything from baths (she hates them) vegetable oil, and shed ease. i called the vet it will be two weeks before i can get her in. what makes this really hard is that she 1 hates to be touched she runs away every time, and i think she is one of the fastest tegu's ever, i mean quick. 2 she refuses to try to shed herself. she has plenty of things to shed with. my male in the same tank sheds fine so i know it is not my conditions, and she gets fruit almost daily. she is 2 yrs old. so what can i do. she wont let me help her, and she wont do it herself. i really dont even know what the vet will do.

So none of the tricks you used helped? (not the bathing the oiling nor the shed ease?)
hmm..I can't think of any more tricks and I too am wondering what a vet would do..
Hope someone else around here can help

My tegu had the same problem when I got him. I took him to the vet and they told me everything I already knew. It took months of trying different things to get a proper shed.

What finally worked for me was regular bathing with shed-aid right in the water. I would soak him at least twice a day. I also removed the substrate from half the tank and replaced it with DRY paper towel. Moistening the skin will help to loosen it but it needs to dry for the shed to fall off. Also if you can get close enough try rubbing the tegu with a dry towel. This should help to take off some of the shed.

is she eating properly. if so, try misting the food thoroughly, and misting her a couple times a day. this helped with Goomba when he was stubborn to shed. he eventually lost his skin even though he wasn't pulling off against anything in particular. good luck!
