My grandma is not into reptiles but she breeds birds. She uses eucalyptus leaves in her nesting boxes and it keeps the bugs out. When she noticed this she now puts them down as ground covering and she has no problems with pests anymore.She told me that most pet stores that specialize in birds carry bags of it. So this may help with tegus as well.
