I just took my tegu to a stupid vet.

Ok. I take that back ... a very unknowlegable vet. It's my fault because I had an appointment at a Herp specific place but I needed to take my cats in to the vet and I figured I could get him seen. I asked if they had any reptile doc and they said yes.

The woman I got really handled him kinda rough. I guess its normal because I am always so worried about squeezing him and she just snatched him right up and showed us how to hold him and make him kinda still or put him into a trance or something like that.

But then she kinda treated him like a general iguana.

She was like: "Oh you should just use newspaper for substrate"
I said: "um right."
She was like: "Wet substrate is bad for his skin."
I said: "um ok."
She was like: "Feed him boiled egs with the shells still on."
I said: "ok."
She was like: "And dont give him too much water."
I said: um ok."

And when I left I was like ... what??

Thank god for this site and everyone knowlegable here. I really am not sure what she was even talking about but I will be taking Kosh to the Herp specific place soon. He was exhibiting some off behavior but Bert says it sounds similar to an early hibernation. We'll see.

Just wanted to pass the info along. This vert didn't know anything about tegus. I think she thought if it was green and had a tail that it was just any ol reptile.

I took my tegu to a real herp vet too.. His whole practice is based around exotics. When he met my tegu, he was very honest and up front in saying that his knowledge of tegus in limited and didn't even know there was an argentine. Kind of figured that the columbian tegu was just a Tegu and all tegus were the same, but at least he was up front in admitting that..

Can't blame someone for not knowing... But i would love to kill the ones that assume for a living.
