I am so excited I got his new enclosure. I had my 12 year old son get inside so you can see how big it is. Now I get to have fun decorating it. I will post pics when it is done.

That was a good one and I have thought about it myself! J/K
The light fixtures that came with it are nice but I was wondering with the enclosure being 6 feet long will a 18 inch reptisun light be enough or should I get a longer fixture for it? Like maybe 3 or 4 feet in length. What do the herp pros think???? Need some help on this one. I want to make sure he is getting enough uv. I also lowered the fixture so it will be about 12 inches from him with the mulch inside, I am also going to put a fine wire mesh light guard over it so he can not burn hisself. Shannon

The UV tube in this case should defiantely be at least 4foot, maybe more like 5 foot would be better. And I wouldn't worry too much about meshing it off, as the heat generated by UV tubes is not that high. You didn't mention the basking lamp though, so I assume you may of meant that this is what the light guard is for.
Remeber to get some pics up once the decor is finished.
Yes the light guard is for the basking light. I will post pictures I am so excited to fix it up for him. Thanks for all the input it really helps us novices!!!! Shannon
Hello It's me again. I have been looking all over the net for 5 to 6 ft. uv bulbs. But all I can find are 4 ft. In a 6 ft enclosure will this be enough? I had an iguana as a child that had the same set up and he was fine with it. But I am very new to tegus so I need help with this one. Thanks, Shannon
Thank You, How do you feel about reptisun? I have heard that it is the best. But there are so many to choose from. I am planning on getting reptisun 10.0! Shannon

Actually, i would put a guard on the UV lamp. Not because of heat, since they produce hardly any, but because your tegu can whip at the weak glass tube with his tail and get showered with sharp fragments of glass.
Never can be too careful.. :O) _________________ The Jay
