Hello All,
I am a new member with a B/W Arg. Tegu that is approx 5 months old. I have had the tegu for almost 3 months and he/she is well adjusted, friendly and healthty eater. Currently it is housed in a 55g tank with
2 hollowed out cork logs and repti-bark. Just recently I noticed it was missing a claw on it's hind leg. Some how it got pulled out. I have no idea how this happened or what it could have happened on? The toe has healed up and looks fine. Has anyone experience this? Could it have got caught and pulled of from the cork logs? I also let him/her roam around (in my presence) but have never seen it get caught on anything? Any one have any clue or idea about this?
a lot of reptiles lose stuff. in my limited experience with beardies they lose stuff and are just fine. missing toes and tail nips are not uncommon in any reptile, just not preferred. as long as your tegu is happy and healthy it should be otherwise unphased
if its only missing a claw but still has the digit/fingertip, then it'll grow back. If its missing an entire digit of a toe then no it won't grow back.
I had the same problem with my little guy missing claws but once I removed the cork barks, he didn't lose anymore claws. So yes i would suggest you take out the cork for the time being and just monitor him and see if any more claws are missing after that. Also make sure your tegu is getting sufficient amounts of calcium, that helps too _________________ 1.0.0 Argentine B&W Tegu
