Those things make me feel edgy :/ I have no idea where I could buy some in the UK, but I think my parents would have something to say abou a cockroach colony on the property! Ive heard theyre good for preventing mouth rot in some herps, as the shells are so hard and require so much crunching that they act kind of like a dog chew. Is that true? Im very worried about mouth rot in my beardie, who eats relatively soft foods.
I would say so as well, but I read in a book that having a hard shell to chew on occasionally was good for teeth - and cockroaches were specifically quoted as the example. I think my beardie would struggle though even with a relatively small one - she got scared by superworms when she got nipped on the gum once, so I dont know how she would cope with a large beetle.
If you want something crunchier for a bearded dragon, try black crickets, which are easily available in the U.K. I use them for younger tegu's which seem to enjoy them. Even a young adult BD should be able to manage adult blacks
