I don't have a gecko but have thought about getting one.
I read that the leopard gecko was the best and easiest to start with.
I have all large lizards and wanted something small.

So everyone who has one tell me about your gecko, icon_lol.gif

This is my leo "Virgil", he's about 4 years old, and probably my favorite of all our pets. He has a great disposition and requires very little space to thrive. Plus he always seems to be smiling, so you can't look at him without doing the same. A welcome break from the large, lumbering, often times moody "Booger", my tegu. They make really good pets, and have been known to live up to 30 years.

I have a female 13 year old leo. I love her to death. She's always been very friendly to everybody. I agree, tallbaldNtatt2d, it's impossible to look at them without smiling back. icon_wink.gif icon_lol.gif icon_smile.gif

I also have a few day geckos. Sorry, no pics.

Haha yes, I think so too. icon_wink.gif

I'll try to get a few pics, but keep in mind my camera sucks, so don't expect a masterpiece.

I've always wanted a day gecko, but not sure about temperament. They have beautiful markings, but are they like chameleons...more of a look, but don't touch kinda pet?

I keep and breed leopard geckos. I absolutely LOVE them! They are loads of fun. Here are some of mine:
Tonka (Mack Snow Male, TOTAL Sweetheart)

Sprinkles (High yellow Female, first ever leo, Great girl...even begs for crickets!)

Talia (Albino Female, kind of shy, but sweet)

Hermine (SHTCTB Female, sweetheart, loves her some super worms!)

Yes, they are a look and not touch pet. I couldn't think of a better example of one than a day gecko, to be honest. If you even manage to catch it, it will run and you will have yourself a lost gecko. On the other hand, they are fun captives that are entertaining to watch.

Nice pics reptilefreak!

I would like a Crested, only because one of the articles I read said that they were easier to hold onto because of the padded feet.
Dunno how true that is.
Plus I think they look really neat. icon_lol.gif

I've also considered getting some cresteds, from what I've seen, heard, and read, they are handleable. they definately are gorgeous---all those different colors! I recently saw a different type of gecko at the recent reptile show; unfortunately, I can't remember what type it was. he had features that were more like a regular lizard, claws, and a blunt face, and was brown-ish in color...I don't suppose anyone knows what I was seeing? oh yeah he was extremely tame...he would just chill on your hand...It was at the LLL Reptile booth. In any case, I might get into the market for one like that.

Well, i am a huge crestie fan. Awesome lizards. I have had my share of reptiles in the past and nothing comes close to them (ok, maybe the Blue tongue skink). They are VERY easy to care for, easy to handle, and easy to breed. I will always have atleast one crested gecko. I did love my leo that i had and will probably own another one someday, but as for the close future, I am looking at the Smooth knob tail geckos (N. levis). Cute little guys.

But here are some pics of my cresties.

Mr. Tickles

Dotty (shes my chunky girl!)

Malcolm (was named when i got her, previous owner though she was a he)

Post-It

Apollo

Leo

Truman (First Crested I "produced and hatched")

Chucho (Clutchmate to Truman)

3 Un-named Reds

And finally, the 2nd clutch that I hatched

Oh My they are soooo cute.

Don't they jump from your hands or do they just stay there and hang out?

I really want to get a red or orange one.
Do they lose their tails easily?I see a lot without tails.

They will jump from your hand, but they get into a "squatting" position before they jump, so you can tell when they are going to do it.

I purchased my male as a stub tail. Crested geckos are unique in that they do not regrow their tail once they drop it. But I have had cresties for like 8 months now and havent had one loose its tail yet while in my care. I have been lucky and have found great deals on them and they still had their tails, but I would not pass on one if it didnt have a tail. I personally think some of the tails on them are ugly and would look better with out them lol.
