I don't have any experience with monitors.. But I do know that boscs are tamest.. and I think the throated monitors need considerable handling..
But its like any herp.. the more you handle from a baby, the nicer they get.
But if it does bite you then your health could be at a considerable amount of risk.
Thats one of the monitors killing tactics.. by biting they more or less 'inject' all of the harmful bacteria and germs that are in its mouth into the victims flesh..
I think tegus are alot calmer and friendlier.. and haven't commonly been known to bite their owners _________________ Davii

black throat monitors and not a subspecies of the sav or bosc and can tame down quite well with ALOT of handling and patience. if you plan on getting one try to get a healthy baby and feed it f/t rodents , use cypress multch and handle it like twice daily . _________________ Goals:100 posts DONE!

black throat, white throat, I doubt there will be much of a difference in temperament. try get either one. White Throated Monitors are the rarest around here.. Savs and boscs no problem, just about in every major reptile shop, but white throats are real bad to get hold of.. I tried a while ago, but this time I just got lucky, theres a few in the shop too now, hatchling that is. _________________ Davii

I have Moggie the blackthroat monitor. She's grand, and I love her. But she's not friendly, and I don't expect her to be. She's a big monitor, and she tail whips hard. It'll make you cry.
When they are little sometimes they are friendly. Usually they are not a friendly lizard(going from mine, and from the 4 other people that have owned them for more than a month or so that I know).
She has a 8x8 ft cage. She's grumpy. She's got HUGE talons, and if she bites something, she don't like to let go.
I love her. I don't reccomend them as pets for people in general. _________________ Raw Bear with Salt tastes like Oysters.

Ben Ive never had a BT but a friend of mine had a monster about 6 foot I could put my arms around him so i couldnt give him a Hug overall tame but was a import that came into captivity at 3 feet. so my advice is buy either captive bred or WC Babies so you can raise a tame monitor _________________ TEGUS TEGUS AND MORE TEGUS

Yes I will absolutely buy a baby captive bred. I won't make the same mistake with another herps. Buying a adult reptile is not the best idea, I do not recommand this experience. (except if the adult is very very tame)
Thanks for the info! _________________ Ben3233
