This is the new cage being built that I've started with my carpenter friend. For those who are curious the dimensions are 84X32X36 Length/Width/Height

The reason for the size is to fit in my apartment. It's already larger than I originally thought. The length should be fine and the width and height as well. The reason for 3 feet instead of 2 feet height is purely for a little head space sake. For those who don't know I have 2 baby tegu's about 18 inches long and 4-5 months old. I know this cage is currently overkill for them but I didn't want to do it later so i did it now. And besides who doesn't like bigger better things? I'm sure they won't mind. The cage was made of melamine (correct me if I spelled that wrong) wood which is supposedly good to be watertight, stain resistant etc etc. I have 2 light sockets one for a UVA/UVB bulb and one for inferred light for night time. Both will probably be 150+ watts to compensate for the cage height to maintain proper temps. The paint is non toxic animal safe black spray paint not sure on the name but I made sure it was harmless, besides the inside isn't painted. Also the tile background although it looks flashy is merely that stick on (fake but still looks good) tile to make it look flashy without adding tremendous weight since the cage is already like 400 lbs and I live in an upstairs apartment.

Anyways here is the pics of the cage at about 70% complete. I will add new photos by saturday showing the completed product. Comment and suggestions are welcome.

*Notes* I will be adding air ventilation 3" inch holes to the plexiglass doors once I mount the doors. Also there will be a light switch mount system on the top of the cage to control the lights. This cage design is a modified version of another idea from a fellow member of this website. I give all credit of this cage design and ideas to the member of this site "martee" his cage design inspired me to get one similar.

The cage looks great, very good job. I can relate to trying to make room for a cage in a small apt. Unfortunately I built mine inside the apt., so didn't know that it wouldn't fit out the front door until it was time to move. It took almost as long to tear it apart as it did to build. Hope you don't run into the same problem.

Nice cage dude.. I have been planing a cage as well and I had to measure the door frames in my house areadly, so when I do have to move them in a few months. so i had gone with 72x36x24. for now for my first one for my colombian. Im gonna try to have a 24"+ arg live along with my 24" colombian. If possible, if not then i have plans for a second cage that would be 72x36x30 that would be for the arg. but ill get there when im there. very nice work tho...

Ya apartments are a pain in the ***he he. It's like a huge cage in a shoebox amount of space. But I'll make it fit somewhere. I reinforced the top and bottom so I could technically double stack it with something and not worry about it "bow'ing". I measured my door and rooms so it's literally just BARELY able to fit through my door but this way theres no issues getting it out some day icon_smile.gif The part that sucks most is I live upstairs, but next time I'm getting a down stairs unit for sure!

Very nice looking cage. Hope you have a bunch of strong backed friends to help you carry it "up stairs" I had a big heavy dog house ( 8 x 4 ) that would not fit through the gate. Not only did I need a lot of help, but everyone had to be tall enough to lift it over a 6' block wall. Left me out. : )
Can't wait to see pics of your cage when it is finished.

I wanted to go bigger on my cage and really "trick" it out, but unfortunetly I live in a shoe box sized apartment so I'm struggling with space issues as is, but oh well maybe some day icon_smile.gif I would love to build them some funky cool custom waterfall.

I'll keep you posted on my nightmare over the course of the next day or 2

icon_eek.gif icon_sad.gif .I'm sorry to hear that it didn't fit.Maybe it would work if you just take one of the sides of ( top, bottom or one of the sides ).Good luck and hang in there.
