I finally finished the cage! Well sort of, the cage itself is done and moved in and decorated unfortunately in the process of moving it in I some how fried my custom made light switch. So I have a temporary heat source in there for them now but the basking and inferred light switch box needs to be replaced I will do it tomorrow. My tegu's were so happy at first and absolutely ecstatic about their cage but now they are a little scared since
it's new to them and a big new place they are unfamiliar with so I'm going to give them a week to settle in relax and enjoy the new home. My biggest though (the male/lizzie) is already playing inside the new log I bought him and poking his head out of all the holes like a gopher and playing with all his new natural toys. But enough chatter here's the pictures of the finished product!

Background info: I have a male female pair. About 8-9 months old best guestimate. They are b/w argentine tegu's. The basking uva/uvb is a whopping 275 watts so 110 degrees should be np. I'm going to buy a temp adjuster plug in adapter to control the heat outtage so they don't fry tomorrow. The bulb cage cover= chicken wire screen. Everything else is self explanitory.

Stars and Planets that glow in the dark, cheesy but looks cool! And lets my tegu's watch the stars at night icon_smile.gif -The tape is ghetto but only temporary until I can buy more sticky putty from the store-

looks fantastic.
my only adjustment would be to pitch the guard from the light. it just gives them something to hang on and get burned, atleast the bulbs are slick and the cant hang on them.
great work

I see you spray painted it? (judging by the strips of sprayed tape round the edges.

Use a clear lacquer (sorry cant spell) to make it extra shiny=D

Nice cage though! I so wish I had used lino on the tank walls. all I use is laminate MDF, but water seeps behind and opens it up.. looks a right mess in some places.

Oh and btw, Those waterfall water things are real nice features.. BUT.. they really really stink when the water goes stagnent. They're difficult to clean and the pump sometimes gets blocked up with dead locusts/crickets.. which adds more to the smell. They get grimy.

I used mine for about a month then threw it away. They're expensive too lol

Heh thanks for the comment. I clean the waterfall daily and it can be a pain. If they didn't like/use it so much I'd probably have said F'this and tossed it by now too. Ya i spray painted it for now but I will paint over it later on in the future. Right now im more concerned with the inside being cool for "them" and when I move somewhere that doesnt suck and isn't so small I will take time to really detail the cage and make it look sexy icon_smile.gif

I "finished" Koopa's enclosure about a year ago. There's still lots of areas I'd like to improve it. Right now I'm trying to decide if I want to cover all the wood with bamboo halves, just to make it look more exotic. Anyway, here's a picture. Not bad for a couple of kids, if I say so myself.

Some storage in the top:

I have lots of pictures during every step of instruction, and can offer lots of advice for anyone that's interested.

Some of the features:
- top storage
- castor wheels
- single extension plug, which means I only need one single outlet to hook it up.. I've wired my own outlet to the inside where the power bars and etc. are located.
- bi-level floor.. the left side is approx. 4 inches higher than the right side, to allow the substrate to be deeper, to give the illusion of the tegu being able to burrow under ground
- ceramic tile floors.. nicest floors in my whole house, haha. Water tight.
- side windows are constructed in slots, so they effortlessly slide out when the top is opened to be replaced or cleaned with ease.
- double-opening top. The "lid" is opened in the second picture, but the section it sits on (about a foot deep) also opens up with it's own set of hinges. This is because that storage section is closed off from the rest of the enclosure by wood and steel mesh. When the top section is removed, I have access to every inch of the enclosure with no worries.

She's built strong.. I can stand on the lid when it's closed (I do that a lot, to open a small window in the corner of the room where the enclosure sits, I can sit or stand or lay or walk or jump inside of the enclosure if I wanted to. I can crawl right inside to clean or reorganize things.

Oh ya, and it's tegu proof. icon_razz.gif Most important part.
