Spencer, my expereince, which is limmited, has led me to use baby mineral oil. Not the J&J baby oil but the nice stuff the wife and I got for our little one as a baby gift. It's helped with the tail issue, as my guy has had the same problem at least 2 X. Good luck.
I will add that bad sheds are most often the result of poor housing conditions, note that I've had issues as well and I'm not calling you or anyone a bad owner or caretaker, humidity might be off and for a red it might not be getting enough vegitation in its diet. Try to increas the humidity and see what happens. Too much soaking can also cause skin issues, just FYI.

Tegster had a bad tail shed that we put olive oil on. But we also gave him short soaks every other day for a week. Ultimately, we worked our butts off trying to keep his tank humidity up until we completed his new enclosure. His tail shed one scale at a time, and the scales didn't come off unless he was rubbing on our shirts or carpets or some kind of fabric.
I've read about couple of different products on here but no specific names yet.
By the way, he is in his new enclosure now and keeping the humidity up is a snap. He has just completed his total body shed and his tail is coming off in large patches as anticipated. A couple more inches to go and he'll be done.

i have had some of the same things with my colombian her tail would only shed a few scales at a time. so i used the shed aide stuff and i give her baths a few times a week. it has cleared it all up. and i am now making a cage for her. so i hope it will all work. _________________ 0.1.0 Colombian Tegu

i wanted to get some shed aide stuff but they're sold out like everywhere so i used some the purest oliveoil i could find and rubbed his tail and legs with it to get it to shed.
about his housing his humidity isnt right thats why and he is only starting since yesterday to take fruits but his new cage will be done by next week (8x4x4) lol god i hate sealent ruined my shirt! forgot to put on crappy clothes.! anyways back on topic the olive oil looks like it made his colors brighter and his shed is coming off scale by scale so when i put his tail i get like a handful of tiny scales :S _________________ Goals:100 posts DONE!

I'm glad to hear that the shed is coming of and congrats on him eating some fruit now.Leonidas still doesn't want to eat any fruit or veggies. When I mix it in with the meat he doesn't even want to eat the meat.Sorry to hear about your shirt .Take care.
Ive just moved him to my 75 gallon terrarium and put a towel on the screen roof put in a waterfall and added lots of moist multch and i hope that the jump in humidity will help its at 87% humidity now and thats what i wanted
About me not taking good care of charlie or any of my lizards i do i spend about 3 hours a day holding and letting charlie free roam my floors and another probably 2 hours with my 8 year old skinks.
charlies shed is sort of coming of ill rub some more olive oil on it today hope it comes off _________________ Goals:100 posts DONE!

Spencer.I don't think any body sad any thing about you are not taking good care of charlie. We all know that you do.When I wrote take care I meant with stay well and be happy not take better care of charlie.I know you are doing your best .I'm glad to hear that you have better luck now with keeping the humidity up.
bad news... it looked like the olive oil was helping but its not really doing anything so im gunna go to a different pet store today see if they have some shed aide. plus ive been forgetting to give him his supplement for about 2 weeks so im gunna start him on them again on a 4 times a week basis. its like really bad looks like its cutting his tail in like 5 places and he loses scales and i keep rubbinb off the parts that are contricting but since hes growing so fast its just happening all over his tail...
and around his arms the old scale is like rotting so you know what the vet tells me? she sayd he prolly cut himself on the multch im like wtf>? cant u see the shed?
ive gotta get this shed off QUICK!
how did u guys apply the olive oil like rub it on then put ur tegu under the light because thats what ive done 3 times now. _________________ Goals:100 posts DONE!

I just used the olive oil ones on Leonidas and it helped.Sorry that it doesn't work for you. What I did was I gave him a bath and let him soak in some warm water.Than I put the olive oil on there and let him bask.I don't remember what it is called but try to get in touch with angelrose. She bought some stuff from the store and she sad it works great.Until you get that stuff give charlie lots of baths and let him soak. Please do not rub or pull on the skin.Since it is stuck on there so bad you could tear the skin under neath open.It is sad to see that there are so many vets out there that have no knowledge about reptiles but stores sell a lot of them.

Hi spencer, Most of the time when I see Angel is starting to shed I place her in just a warm bath and it usually comes off in sheets except for her hands and toes (maybe I jinxed myself). but the one time she had some different shedding going on her back leg. that's why I got the Shed-Ease and placed some in lukewarm water, gave her a little massage. when she was done soaking (she loves the bath) I massaged a little directly on her leg and upped the humidity a n d so far so good
the skin comes off softly I find it at Petland (and they don't even sell reptiles). _________________ 0.1.0 b/w Colombian tegu

I agree, shed ease does work well, along with daily soaking. I used shed ease on Joanna and it worked great. I had tried mineral oil prior to that and had no luck with it. Shed ease for sure.
