has anyone ever used just coconut fiber for substrate for tegus? i have 3 bricks worth in my custom so far and i let my 2 tegus climb around in there and they love it.. isis started to burrow in it and gavin was diggin already. i was just wondering if anyone has used just this before? i have thought about mixing it with cypress mulch but i might go with just this. i think itd be softer on them.

I use it in my hatchling/juvenile rearing cages. It holds the humidity quite well and is relatively easy to clean. However, if it dries out it is dusty beyond belief. Don't bother buying the stuff from a petshop, the price for it is absurd. You can usually find it at a horticultural or hydroponic supply for a lot less. The industry name for it is coir, although some call it peat replacer.

I just threw a brick in to add some depth to the substrate, I've used it for a ball python before but my tegu looks like he loves it.
