yeah, it's similar to snake bedding that i used for my rainbow boa. it holds moisture really well. i have moss mixed in with the substrate in his hideout, he loves it in there. thanks for the compliments, the enclosure was a pain to build. i couldn't have done it without everyone's suggestions on this site. i'm on here so often my boyfriend probably thinks i have a lover on the side icon_lol.gif

By chance, was he in any sort of hibernation mode? Sometimes when they are trying to wake up they are still groggy and tend to loose cordination for a little bit. If you don't know what your looking at, it can be quite a scare. Glad he is doing much better.

because he is so young i didn't expect him to display any characteristics of hibernation, it could be a possibility though. he isn't displaying any of the characteristic signs of calcium deprivation so that's likely what happened. thanks, it makes sense.

Yeah, that's what it sounded like when I first read your post. I just read your other posts on how you upped the lights and indirectly overall temps. in your cage. Most likely what was happening, was your tegu was trying to figure out if he/she was going to hibernate. Hence, the less eating and other characteristics. Once your upped the temps, it made your tegu think it wasn't time to go under.

Age doesn't really have anything to do with hibernation/brumation. I've seen tegu's hatch late in Aug and start preparing for hibernation almost immediately.

What were your temps like in the cage before you added the new lights? What was the basking temp?
