What I find helpful, when any of our rescues don't completely shed, especially tails is to wet a terry wash cloth or hand towel with warm water and apply it to the area for a few minutes then slowly work it with your fingers in the wet towel from the top of the shed to the end of the tail. You are right, I have seen unshed tails lost because of the skin drying like a rubber band and cutting off the blood supply. Good luck. RARE mar.

I think by you giving him a bath every day for just a few minutes ( like 15 to 20 ) in warm ( not hot ) water will help just fine. You can test the water by putting the inside of your wrist under the warm water. If it feels a bit to hot cool it down a little.Maybe there is nothing wrong with the humidity but with the diet he is on.PLEASE DO NOT ( no,I'm not trying to yell at you icon_lol.gif ) pull on the skin.

Hi eckersworld. What kind of diet is he on ? does he eat some fruit ? how many different meats/fish/rodents do you give him a week ? I know you sad that you tried every thing but just in case did you check your humidity ? if he doesn't eat any fruit try to give him some organic fruit baby food with his ground turkey. How many baths do you give him during the shedding period ? could you please post a picture of the tail ? thanks.

He is still just a baby so he is VERY picky with his food!!! I give him turkey, superworms, crickets, roaches, pinkie mice and the odd time he will eat a couple grapes and straw berries cut up but this is OK because as babies they are pretty much strictly carnivours or so im told icon_rolleyes.gif

The humidity is WAY up I have a vision cage customized for a tegu!!! I also have a rubbermaid bin with a side cut out filled with wet moss at all times..... He spends the majority of his time in there thats why I dont understand what is wrong icon_question.gif

At 1st I thought it was no big deal considering it was damn near the whole tail but now its been about 5-8 days so I think it is just about time to panic icon_cry.gif

I will post pics as soon as he is up in the morning. I will include pics of him and his enclosure... I am sure as heck raising him right so I dont know what could be going wrong icon_sad.gif I have been bathing him DAILY in lukewarm water and rubbing with a cloth to try to get the tail shed off and NOTHING is working icon_cry.gif

yeah this problem is very worrisome. my guess is that he wasnt properly moisterized before i got him or something. cuz im doing everything as best as i can. BUT i just found the key. the bottom seems softer and more pliable and in some places right now it wants to come off!

I would spray it or soak it and see if it works itself off in the next couple of days.

it's gotta be diet, feed him a bunch of fruit or something, i never seen a shiny shed like that before. groxy has retained sheddings for like over a week before, and they never looked like that at all.

i know you said not to pull on it, but he might need to get a tear in it started by hand cause the tail is starting to compress. maybe if a tear starts it'll grow down the length as the tail pushes on it. just the first two lines of scales of the stuck shed.
