Hello everyone!
A (not so) Brief Introduction
My name is Jeremy and I work at Purrfect Pets in Corbin, Ky. (Very small town) This store has a huge Argentine B&W that has made me fallen in love with Tegus. (Not the illegal kind of love mind you!) I know a few basic things about reptiles, nothing too grand.
I have a small story and a lot of questions regarding Tegu, and this seems to be the right place to ask! I'll start another thread in the appropriate forum for them though,so all I am gonna say here is:

Thank you for the kind welcomes
I do have a Tegu now. He's a Columbian Gold and I think he is around 5-6 months old. _________________ 0.0.1 Columbian Gold Tegu

Oh damn! That's a really skinny tegu :/
How often does he/she eat?
Do you have UVA/UVB lights?
He was very sickly and frail when I got him. My best friend and I work at a pet store and some kid brought him in wanting to sell it to the pet shop. My friend bought it for me because the pet shop wouldn't pay what the kid was asking for it and he knew it would die soon. (And he knew that I wanted a Tegu)
That was about 2 weeks ago. He's doing a lot better. At first I thought he was really friendly but then I figured out that he was just too tired to try to hurt me. (Now he tries to bite me all the time!) I don't mind though, it's good to see him active and running around now. _________________ 0.0.1 Columbian Gold Tegu

thank God that the boy brought in the Tegu to the store and that your friend bought him/her for you.I can't believe how many people are out there that don't take care of there animals and than when they see it's sick they want to adopt it out or sell it.They shouldn't get any money for making a animal sick. They should be glad that someone even wants to take in a sick animal and rescue it.Oh,boy I better stop before I go on and on about that.
Thanks for the pictures.Better late than never .Good luck with him/her.Please keep us posted.Thanks.
good for you ! their very pretty and actually can be very good lizards with time and sometimes alot of patience. just give him a reason to trust you. what are you feeding him ?

We haven't had any pinkies for a while so mainly dusted crickets, baby food, red tuffys and goldfish. He also ate a gerbil pinkie the other day. _________________ 0.0.1 Columbian Gold Tegu

Hi LeNoir, I'm judging from the picture and he looks like he is beyond the pinkie stage. pinkies really don't have any nutrition. they are just fat. the bones and things are not developed yet.
you should not be feeding him red tuffys and goldfish because of the chemicals. if your going to feed fish, get the fresh fish fillets at the supermarket.
colombians are carnivores. you can feed him ground turkey, lamb, venison, chicken, chicken gizzards and hearts, beef liver, even some very lean ground meat (all raw), dubia roaches, superworms, they love quail hatchlings and chicks, a small mouse (he can handle now), rat pup/small,small rat and even cooked hard boiled or scrambled egg.

We have a small feeder mouse, about 2 inches long and 1 inch wide, he will eat it?
I am just so cautious about what to feed him. I guess I am going to be one of those parents who won't let their child grow up ^,^"
I stopped feeding him the fish a bit ago after someone else here advised against it for the same reason.
The only experience I have with Tegus is our stores B/W. I never worry about feeding him because he'll eat anything I throw in there. He'd prolly eat every mouse we had if I gave him the chance heh.
Oh yeah, we have some canned Monitor food, what do you guys think about that? _________________ 0.0.1 Columbian Gold Tegu
