I was thinking cypress mulch, but cant find it ANYWHERE, not even home depot, I live in so-cal, so maybe that has something to do with it???
Would Organic compost work??? I seen that at home depot but wasnt too sure about it. I need alot Because we are moving Patches into a huge out door enclosure and I have him on Cypress now...

Where did you get your Cypress mulch before ? I found out that like in the middle of the summer walmart stoped having the cypress mulch because of the gardening season is over.They have to make room for the Christmas stuff.I know that some members here are using hay.
txrepgirl- I bought his cypress mulch at petco, but the price was rediculous!!! My goal was to find a CHEAP one that would work well.
But I never even considered hay. thank you.
but for outdoor cypress isn't really viable in cali, cheapest i can get it in this state is about 10 bucks a cubic foot.
i was having an idea after discussing my neighbors plans for an outdoor pen for her tegu's.
we can get that peat stuff out here real cheap. not the actual moss, but the dirt underneath. it can be bought in big landscape supply spots in large plastic wrapped cubes. also, Filler dirt, dirt ment to be ammended by soil ammendments. they add nothing to that stuff cause it's cheaper. i'd say maybe rent a rotitiller and shred up the inside of the pen, then add peat or more filler dirt. a big water bowl, maybe some flagstone and some plants.
but really, even in so-cal you need to get em to sleep in a moist hide cause the outdoor humidity will still be too low. _________________ 1.1.0 Arg B/W Tegu Joker n Groxy

When you are going to built the outside enclosure I would be careful because they are great diggers and they can get out.Here is some photos from one of the breeder's outside enclosure.Hope that help.That is where I got the idea from with the hay.

I think having your tegu outside is a great idea but what about in the winter? You have to bring them inside, yes? I don't know about Florida (isn't Vanyard Herps in Florida?) but in No. California it gets cold in the winter and too wet, I think. Bubbategu2

She proceeded to tell me about how she went online to a local hardware store's(insert nationwide chain here) site and found a skew number for it(they couldn't find it as there's no such thing here)and had them order it for her to come with their other orders.
