I am getting a 6' by 3' by 2' enclosure for a hatchling. Now should I put multiple hiding places for him to feel safe? Also what is the best UVB lighting to use for him? I keep my house between 72 and 76 degrees so what wattage light should I use? I will also have a Kane 18" by 18" Kane heat matt under the enclosure .I will also use a thermostat. I have read that CHE is not good for them that basking is much better. Is this right? Also because the enclosure is so large for a hatchling should I have 2 basking spots? So what should I use at night for him? Night glow bulb? Sorry if I sound stupid. I have been reading about Tegus for about 6 months but there really is not much out there. Mostly for monitors. Do the same rules apply? I have learned the most on this forum!!!! Thanks Everyone!!!!! Shannon

When the tegus I have are inside I use a compact florescent bulb that fits right in a regular fixture, but you can also use a normal florescent bulb like this one.

It needs to be done by trial and error. To many variables.

A basking spot is required for proper digestion.

No. Have the basking light on one side, put no heat sources on the other side. This was you have a warm side and a cool side. This is required so the tegu can properly thermoregulate. (aka move from hot to cold and cold to hot as needed)

Room temp should be fine. The heatpad will work well during chilly winter nights. No night bulb. A period of no light is best. I try to recreated a decent photoperiod like they would have in the wild.
