I wanted to get others opinions on if I am feeding my Tegu who is a little over 2 months old the correct food portions and supplements:

6 days out of the week I give her some turkey in the morning and leave it in a bowl in her cage before I leave the house. Everyday in the afternoon I feed her as many crickets as she will eat. Once a week or everyother week I give her a lightly scrambled egg and leave that in her cage in the morning and in the afternoon I feed her crickets like usual.

For supplements I dust the crickets (with calcium) and put calcium in the ground turkey every other day. And once a week I dust the crickets with a vitamin supplement. She also has a 10.0 UVB light in the cage.

Does that sound correct? Are there other others foods I could be giving her? I tried fruit but she wont eat it, I think she is still too young. Thanks

Katie

Oh yes I forgot, I give her as many fuzzies as she will eat every 2-3 days.

Tegu's don't generally swallow substrate, as they are bright enough to spit it out. I'm not saying it's an impossible scenario, because it isn't, but it is one that generally only need's care when they are young.

Just look for a substrate thats large, and difficult for your Tegu to unwittingly swallow.

I put a towel in the cage and then feed my tegu on that so I am not really worried about her eating any substrate. I just put the turkey or eggs on top of it and my tegu knows not to eat the food on the substrate. Hope that helps!
