Hi
I have had a male red tegu and a female black and white tegu (kept together) for about a month now. At first I had no problem with feeding but now I am starting to see a massive feeding response. I thought I got luck and got two tegu with no feeding response but yesterday my b/w tegu jumped about 1.5foot in the air and nipped my finger as I was taking the water bowl out. I have tried to feed them out side of the enclosure a few times but the female won't eat. The male eats a little but not nearly as much as he would in his enclosure. Dose anyone have any suggestions on how to get them to eat out side of the enclosure? And also anyone have any tips on clicker training? What should I use as a clicker? And is it better for the clicker to be really loud or quite?

Just feed them outside the enclosure is a large plastic bin. Feed only one at a time. Feed only prekilled rodents (fresh or frozen/thawed) if you are going to feed rodents. They will eat and get used to eating in the plastic bin. If they don't eat or don't eat much, just leave them in the bin for a short period of time and then if they still don't, then move them back to the enclosure. Do not offer food in the enclosure. They will eat in the bin when they get hungry. Try draping a towel over the bin and leave it undisturbed for 15 to 20 minutes. Some tegus don't like to eat when being watched.
As far as clicker training, once you get them eating in the bin just click every time you put them into the bin with food. They will associate the bin with food. This is the clicker I use. You can get one at nearly any petshop.

I agree. Spicoli doesn't like it when I watch him eat, but when i walk away, he gets busy.

My two B&W's have no trouble at all eating while I'm watching. I can even reach in and nudge at their food if they're having trouble with it, but that just makes them put more effort into eating. I guess they think I'm gonna steal it, because that's what happens if I feed the two of them in the same container at the same time.
