I know I keep posting topics concerning health issues, but I do take good care of these guys! I swear! I rescued both of them from poor homes so getting them back on track takes time.
Anyway, enough blabbing. My tegu has this small bump raising up his scales along his spine, right before his back legs. It looks kinda like zit. It doesnt seem hard, it is soft when I push on it, but Im just concerned because I havent seen anything like that before. Anyone seen a "zit" or know what Ive done to cause such a weird little under-the-scale bump? Thanks for any help.

If it's right over the vertebral column, just ahead of the rear legs, there's a chance it might be some sort of hematoma. There's a pretty good blood sinus in that area, and the dorsal vein comes right up to the surface over the hips. I've occassionally seen hematomas in this region, but I'll also say that usually it was in response to physical trauma of some sort. It could also be a localized edema in response to an infection, causing swelling of the sinus and/or possibly local lymph nodes. This would follow with it being soft. If it were smaller, harder, I'd think it to be more of a cyst, possibly a parasite. You should take it to the vet to be checked out.

It was mentioned the bump may be caused by physical trauma.... I was just wondering if the bump ever goes away? I think my tegu was mishandled by the person we had petsitting it while out of town and he has a bump in the position mentioned... will it go away?

Thanks,
Tiffany
