OK i have a possible problem. the light that i have for my new enclosure puts out a ton of heat. my basking platform is in the 90's it fluctates a little. but directly under the light there is about a 4 inch circle that is 118 degrees. i know thats a lot but it is only a concentrated spot. is this ok?

if not how can i fix it?

My basking temps are at like 115 and they seem to like it - When they get hot enough, they will move...

I think a small area that is 115-120F is good. They will move away when they heat up. So long as there is escape to lower temps you will be fine. The big temp mistakes are 1: a small tank that gets entirely heated to 90F or 2: the opposite extreme of chronically low temps that are in the 80s with no "hot spot" for basking. A large enclosure with a gradient is ideal, even if the temps are extreme at both ends (130-65 or something). They know how not to overheat in the wild. icon_smile.gif
