My little guy makes this odd noise its not a sneeze or a cough it sounds like a puff he does it every so often like once every few min. He has always made this sound and since I have a snake that does it too but his is a hiss that he does only when you hold him, but hes all bark no bite. So i never over thought this noise. But I was thinking is it possible that is an infection his nose is clean and he doesn't make that noise often at all so is it common or do I need to shell out a few hundred at the vet. I really don't want to just to find out hes fine. Any input would be great. Temps in his tank are 115 basking 90 warm side 75-80 on the cool side. and I spray the tank every day.

my tegu does this too. It sounds a bit like a sneeze but his temps are the same as yours, and he shows no other signs of respiratory problems.

I think it may be when he is sleeping and a sudden noise startles him, and he wakes up with a quick 'huff'. i don't know though, its strange. I've had him for 2 weeks now and have heard this sound often but like I said, no signs of illness whatsoever.

While most tegus will "huff" as a warning to intruders, you do have to be careful not to get too lax about it; my tegu came to me with a respiratory infection, which sounded a little more wheezy than breathy, and he had no nasal discharge either. The sound they make should be "clean" - that is, just like a breath of air being pushed out, not raspy or rattly in any way. If in doubt, its always a good idea to get them checked out. A checkup at the vet wont cost hundreds of dollars - with my herp vet here it costs about £26 (around $35) and us Brits are used to being ripped off icon_wink.gif

Dont think your gettting ripped off. its $75 to see the vet because they charge you for full check up on the first visit for a problem. If I had to go back for a follow up visit thats what costs $35. But to me it sounds very clean.
