My name is Kat, I have just purchased my first Columbian B&W Tegu. I already have a houseful of herps, and convinced hubby today to let me get this cute little tegu, though didn't remember if it was the Columbian or Argentine tegu that is more docile til after we were home. That's okay, this just means that mine won't get as large as the Argentines would. Don't know yet if it's male or female, should know after it gets a little older. I have always loved herps since Dad taught me how to catch garter snakes when I was about 4. We laughed about this today on the phone. We currently have 10 snakes, the tegu, 3 frogs (Mantella and 2 Dendrobates) and hubby insists on keeping Cichlids in tanks that would be perfect for Herps! LOL

We live in Tempe, AZ. (AZ is short for Arid-Zona!) icon_lol.gif Fortunately, we have three very well known and respected Herp Vets here in the Eastern half of the Valley so the Tegu is going to have a "Wellness checkup" soon, just in case it was a WC, though I think it was CB. (forgot to ask)

Well, enough said for now,

Thanks for reposting my pic, I should have just used the IMG instead of url. icon_smile.gif Thank you for the welcome too, hope to learn more about my tegu as I go. I had already been looking at them for quite a while and had been reading about them quite a bit. Spent quite a bit of time on the Agama International site a while back, reading everything there I could find, as well as a few other googled sites. about how many large crickets, mealworms and such should a young tegu have every day? I already have the calcuim and herpavit mineral supplements and have been dusting them before putting in with him yesterday and today, but since they appear to have the ability to be little piggies, I don't want to overfeed him (her?)

I am also trying to find a name that would work for both male and female pets, so I don't have to change it later if I am wrong about the sex. icon_surprised.gif

A big and happy welcome from me as well.

Welcome to The Tegu Community @ www.thetegu.com

Great looking little colombian. Most colombians are WC or farm raised and shipped to the US. Tegus are very hardy so even most WC in the pet trade do fine. Just have it checked so you don't bring a parasite into your established collection at home.

Check on the "Helpful Info" link on the top left of each page in the Main Menu for lots of good info.

Rick

Thank you Rick, I am glad to hear that they are quite hardy, I know one vet from meetings at the Arizona Herp Assoc that I belong to, so he will be getting my tegu care business, as well as my snakes. He is a great herp vet. icon_biggrin.gif

I am fortunate to live in an area that is close to three well respected herp vets. I have friends elsewhere that have had no luck finding any vet that will have anything to do with herps.
