Anyone seen any sites with good info on Argus monitors? I got two about a month ago and just like to continue reading about animals I keep. We need a tegu.com for all herps!

I really can't think of any sites on the top of my head. But I bet that if you google it, you'll find a lot of things. Shawdow knows the most about monitors on here I believe.

What would you like to know? There are plenty of forums out there dedicated solely to varanids, so why don't you try there? Argus monitors are VERY hyperactive monitors, and eat incredible amounts of food. They love to dig and make burrows all over there cage, so a deep 'burrowable' substrate should be provided, like dirt. They like nice and hot basking/surface temps. so a good temp. would be 140F. Humidity should be between 45-70%. A diet of rodents/birds should work just fine, and bugs/rodents for babies/juveniles. Plenty of hides, and there ya go.

Cheers,

Adrian

Awesome, thanks...even google seems to pull up info that's all the same stuff. I'll look up forums on varanids. I just like a lot of pics and discussion on general activity. Mine are very young but I hear they are so active yet mine hide whenever I enter the area.

Its very typical for babies/juveniles to be skittish at such a young age, but once they get acclimated and accustomed to there surroundings (assuming that there setup is correct) they will become a LOT more bold. Would you get some pictures of your setup and maybe I could help you out?

Cheers,

Adrian

Sure, I recently moved to Tennessee and haven't found the cable to my camera. As soon as I find it I'll post some pics.

Adrian is correct and very good when it comes to monitors. I just thought I'd add some pics of an adult female argus that my sister's ex boyfriend caught in a parking lot near a very busy part of town! I went and picked her up and she was a great animal. I don't have the time/room for them as they have alot of upkeep. They need large enclosures as adults and will use every bit of space you give them!

The box she's in is 4 1/2 ft long and around 2ft wide. She was over 4ft.

Didn't know how calm she was so I wasn't just gonna let her head free. She wasn't bad though.

And I finally trusted her and she was fine.
