Just plain melamine is, but there are two problems with it. Silicon does't adhere to it well and melamine usually is used to laminate some form of particle board, which once you get moisture in it, it rots and falls apart like there's no tomorrow. I'd recommend finding an alternative material.
From what I've read melamine is "water resistant", but not waterproof like to fill it with water. Yes you need to seal the edges with a siliconeand also buy the tape they sell that is for the exposed wood borders. If the wood gets wet it will warp and possibly mold. I don't think it is the best idea to use a melamine cage if you are planning on putting a waterfall in there. Maybe you should use a glass aquarium. Depending on the size you can house a tegu in there.... I hope this helps some.. _________________ 1.0.0 american pit bull terrier

I totally agree here.. Resistant, not waterproof. And Tupinambis is right as well.. Once water gets through the coating, it is nothing but sawdust and glue underneath.. it will rot away in a month. _________________ The Jay
i agree with everone above. once the mater that coats the sawdust-like material inside comes off you would have to try to find a new tank immediatly. For the inside you could use like liquid latex or something to keep the wood from rotting. I hear people use 4-5 coats and make sure it air dries for a week to let the fumes leave.
