Yeah, it can occur with too much artificial supplementation, eg vitamin powders containing D3 and Calcium/D3 being given too often in conjuction with each other etc. This is why its now common practise to use one multi-vit containing D3 3/4 times a week (as an example) and pure calcium for other feedings. If the herp has access to UVB then it can synthesise its own D3, and so its not essential to frequently supplement with the product containing D3. An overdose is characterised by D3 accumulating in the body, and is highly toxic to the animal.
