I took in a tegu about a month ago that was in bad shape. Prolapsing, underweight, stuck shed, crooked tail, missing toes....

I've been feeding this girl small meals, she has not prolapsed since the first day I got her. She is gaining weight and her last shed is better.

But....she has got the trots still. Not like every 10 minutes, but every day to every other day, a puddle of melted chocolate ice cream. (eww, I may never eat ice cream again.) I'm thinking it's time for a fecal. I do have the URP book but have not purchased a microscope. I going to take a fecal to the vet.

Anyhoo, what's the possible reasons for the trots? parasites etc... I like to double check everything my vet says, since he does not specialize in reptiles. I was hoping she would get better after a few weeks of decent food and care, but she hasn't.

50% ambient humidity. Eating bananas, grapes, rodents, cooked meats, scrambled eggs and a few veges.

UV light and CHE. Moist hide Calcium supplement

And does anyone use ParaZap in Tegu's?

I would say your best bet would be to take it to the vet. You can not worm her right if you do not know what type of parasites she has. It might not even be parasites at all.

As for the ParaZap, it has another well known name ParaCrap. I would not put any faith in this stuff. I have tried it, it did not work for me. Others will tell you the same thing. Like I said a vet could help you a lot more.

Another possibility is the diet. Possibly the ratio of plant matter to animal matter is off. Plus, don't cook the meat. Most animals cannot handle cooked meats properly.

Lots of fruit, bananas and grapes can make for some messy, foul stool.
If any of mine get more than 40 - 50% fruit per meal this happens.

As suggested, a vet check never hurts. I say when in doubt have the
vet check it out!
