If so, what temp, and for how long?

Yes, but I use a old microwave. You can get one cheap at a yard sale, flea market or salvation army store.

But when you use a regular oven, you can put a thin layer on a sheet pan. set it on 300 and let it bake for 20-30 minutes. Repeat this process until you have enough to fill your enclosure.

excellent this will be way faster than freezing for a day.

by chance what procedure do you use for the microwave?
i'm assuming thin layer, but for how long?

As for the time in the microwave, it would be long enough to get it hot all the way through. You could put a fair amount in it, I like to use a plastic bag. This way it causes steam if a little water is added. This will kill any pests that might be in it.
