It's kinda high if you think about it. I get my roaches for $20 a pound LOL. Only one I know that sells them like that but you get over 100 roaches. I'll need to get some more and see if the tegus will eat them...would really help out! _________________ John Light

Im pretty paranoid that any cockroaches I get will escape and cause havoc in the house :/ Its the same with locusts; I only ever order enough for one or two meals so that they never stick around. I dont want to be responsible for all my neighbours houses becoming infested or something! Can roaches jump or fly or anything?

They will be fed to the tegus one at a time. The tegus eat in a plastic sterilite(tm) tub so the roaches will not be in their actual enclosure. The roaches will be housed in a tank that has a couple inches of teflon tape at the top (I guess some cockroaches can climb glass, but they can't climb on teflon) and there will be a screen top.
If I am the only one getting into the enclosure and I am careful I assume (or hope) they don't get loose. I guess alot of people do this without any problems.

Best method I have found is
With climbers- put vasaline aropund the top 2" and spray bug killer on the floor and around the doorframe to the room.
With non climbers- spray bug killer on the floor and at the doorway to the room.
you can also put glue traps down for extra protection.
tegu feeding is fairly easy as well since they can eat large roaches. I have recently made it a habbit of squishing the roaches head before tossing it in the cage. They still move around for quite a while but die off soon enough so if they escape, it doesn't matter _________________ Bennett

Hey, I'm the guy with the roaches on Reptibids.com. (Thanks Rick for linking my auction, I've had several inquiries) Just wanting to allay some concerns. These are Madagascar Hissing cockroaches like the ones you see on TV so much on reality shows. They cannot fly and aren't very fast, especially as adults. I grow these to feed my own reptiles and sell of excess through reptibids. They are easy to grow and care for and are not good escape artists. A little vaseline around the top of the aquarium keeps them in. They aren't very tough either. They tend to die off quickly outside of their home environment. I've had several colonies for about five years without much trouble. My lizards of all types really like them and prefer them over crickets. The roaches start out as babies about 1/4 inch long so they can be used for smaller lizards too. Thanks for your interest. Anthony

I still can't get my blue tegus to eat them (or anything besides mice/turkey). You should be careful where you ship those roaches....although available they are illegal here in Florida. I've had them get out and they live NO problems here! I think I've gotten them all but you never no. _________________ John Light

Thanks for the reply and thanks for stopping by the site. I have been thinking of trying to see in my tegus would eat cockroaches (they eat about anything) but most places I find want $1.50 to $2.00 each plus shipping. You had a deal I couldn't resist. I even went through all of the effort to register on ReptiBids just to bid!
I appreciate your speedy response and the caresheet you e-mailed me. Most people selling stuff online are out to make a buck and don't go out of their way by sending a caresheet, so thanks.
As far as if they are legal or not, I think thats more the buyers responsibility, not the seller. I could be wrong.

Roaches are creeping. I don't like bugs. My Tegu is still to small to eat roaches. He would be scared of them. I think I'll substitute the roaches, with something else like ground turkey.

Those are adults...there are baby roaches! Now that my tegus are completely settled in and my big female has begun eatting I'm going to get a bunch of roaches to try out and from then hopefully I can get them to eat them, that way I can always have something in their cage for them to eat!
