I'm finally able to post a pic! Have a new digital camera, and was practising closeups, and noticed this in the pupil of my tegu. What could it be?

If you go to my photo album, page 18, you can get a much bigger pic, and it will show what I mean. It's in the pupil.
Thanks!

I see a glare from the flash of the camera and white pigment from the color of its eyes. Nothing bad.

I see it - a white substance along the bottom edge of the pupil. Dont know what it is though.

I do see white circling the eye. If you think its a problem, then I suggest using a Saline solution and cleansing it out.

That clearly isn't on the eye, it is under the cornea and over/on the edge of the pupil margin. It might be a slightly defective pupil malformation, or it could even be a parasitic worm. Especially in young, developing animals, parasites sometimes get lost in the body and wind up in unusual places such as inside the eye. In order to get a better and more accurate diagnosis, you should take your tegu to the vet.

That's what I was wondering, if it was a parasite! I'll confer with my vet!
Thanks!

If its a parasite, chances are that it wont stay in one spot. Keep an eye on it and take it to the vet asap.

Quick hop in your btorgymobile and take to the vet clinic STAT! I mean just take him to the vet that would be the very best thing for Iago icon_biggrin.gif Good luck and happy herping!

Just got a response from my reptile vet regarding Iago's eye:

"Just noted your email with the nice photo. Yes, that could be a parasite but not probable---see if it moves (which a worm would do). Could be fat, and at times in some animals a bit of bone can grow at the edge of the cornea like that---unusual and there's no treatment for that. See if it is enlarging or not."

I've been monitoring this, as well as checking out other photo's on this forum and zooming in on the eyes. I have seen it on other animals. Interesting..... will continue to watch.
