Okay, so currently I am out on holiday visiting my family and my boyfriend is tending to my reptiles while I'm gone.
He went to feed them today and my tegu Imhotep seems to be having some eye issues. I can't quite confirm it being that I'm not there physically to see it, but I really want him to be okay.
This is what he's said, he thinks he's just shedding but I just want to be sure.
"okay, his skin is cracking.. one eye is closed and the skin is translucent...he's rubbing it on the glass and substrate..i poked at it carefully and it "deflated"
and he opened his eye and it looked normal"

Do I have anything to worry about? I really don't want to come home to a dead Imhotep. icon_sad.gif
My boyfriend seems to think he's just shedding and I trust his judgment when it comes to reptiles, but I just would like some feedback. icon_smile.gif Thanks guys, have a happy holiday!

I wouldnt be surprised if it was shedding skin - my beardie in particular has had some horrendous pieces coming off her eyes before that looked terrible, but were shed with no issues. My tegus usually rub their faces very vigorously on their cage furniture and get rid of all the face shed in one session - it must be pretty irritating for them!

Get him to keep an eye on Imhotep - the shed should go quite quickly. If its still lingering around the eye, there may be something more sinister at work, but I doubt that will be the case. Did he mention if it felt as though there were anything, for example fluid, under the skin?

I asked him if there were any fluids coming from the eye and he said no..so maybe I have nothing to worry about. icon_biggrin.gif
I did ask him to keep an eye on Imhotep and to take him to my vet if there were any problems. He is shedding though, so maybe that's it. Maybe I'm just paranoid, haha.
