Colombian Tegus (the colombian black and the colombian gold-phased black) are both more timid. This is not agression, they are just more flighty and a little harder to train. The Argentine Tegus (argentine black & white, argentine red) as well as the Blue Tegu (same species, different geographical region.. brazil?) are generally less timid thus easier to tame and teach.
If you answer some more questions we may be able to assist you better with an answer.
Is this tegu local to you?
Have you seen this tegu in person?
Does in run from you?
Does it huff at you?
Does it whip at you?
Does it bite at you? If Yes, does it bite when you are reaching for or touching it or does it run right out and bite you?
or all of the above?
These will help us guage if it is timid or agressive and how much work will probably be required. Most tegus are not really timid once held for a couple hours, but some can take a couple weeks and a few can take even longer to come around.
For my taming/calming method, click on 'Helpful Info' on the left, in the Main Menu. Then click on 'Calming an untamed Tegu' and you will find one method for calming a timid tegu.

taming is a matter of patience. Most of the time, if you spend enough time with the animal and go slow, they settle in fine. As a general rule, babies are more flighty and dont want to hold still like older animals. Tegus can get big and they do require an investment in time to keep them tame. I feel that some types are naturally tamer than others. In my experience with blues and reds, blues are easier to handle even at younger ages. Reds mellow out fine and can become tame even if they were brought up with little human contact.
